Environmental Protection on the Upswing

Environmental Protection in 2nd Place in the Rankings of Political Issues

A growing number of people name environmental protection when asked about the most important issue facing Germany today. Compared to the 2004 survey, there has been an increase of 7%. Every fourth person now considers environmental protection one of the most important issues in Germany. Hence, environmental protection has climbed from fourth place in 2000 and 2002 to third place in 2003 to its current position in second place.

Germans take a Pro-environment Stance

Almost all of the questions designed to acquire the general attitude towards environmental protection show that the answers are more positive than in 2004. 84% are now of the opinion that we should not consume more resources than can grow back again, and 63% believe that we are headed for an environmental catastrophe if we continue to live as we have been living.
