Increasing Interest in Personal Involvement

Personal Contribution: Among Germans, the most common contribution people make to protect the environment is the careful handling of trash. It was the most common response to the open question, “Do you personally do anything specific to protect the environment?” Sparing use of energy and sparing, environmentally-conscious driving were also among the most commonly cited efforts.

Volunteers: Interest in volunteer opportunities for nature and environmental protection has increased dramatically: 45% can imagine becoming actively involved.

Organic Products: It is becoming a trend to purchase organic products: 41% indicate that they “always” or “often” buy organic products.

Willingness to Pay: The willingness to pay for the environment remains high. As a matter of principle, two-thirds of the population is prepared to spend more money for environmentally-friendly products. The willingness to make donations is basically unchanged compared to the year 2004: one out of four people donated money to protect nature and/or the environment.
