Widespread Approval of Expansion of Renewable Energy Sources

Renewable Energies: The majority opinion is evident: the amount of solar, wind, and biomass energy sources that contribute to the electrical power supply in Germany should be extended. Solar energy is the favorite among the renewable energy sources; 88% favor further expansions. 87% of Germans are hoping for a consequential upgrade to renewable energy sources.

Climate Change: The difficulties surrounding global climate change are more and more prevalent in the general public’s opinion. Almost two-thirds of Germans believe that that Germany cannot overcome the problems that result from climate change.

Climate Protection: Germany should be on the cutting edge of climate protection according to 67% of the population. In comparison to the surveys taken in 2002 and 2004, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people who support Germany’s active role in climate policies (2002: 47%, 2004: 56%).

Risk Factors: The biggest causes for concern are the risk factors associated with the worldwide climate changes. The risks associated with nuclear energy are ranked at a close second.

Phase-out Nuclear Power: 37% are of the opinion that Germany should adhere to the planned nuclear power phase-out (by 2023). 28% would like the phase-out to take place sooner. Only 12% of Germans think that Germany should not abandon nuclear power.
